Bakken Amusement Park
Bakken, also known as Dyrehavsbakken, is one of the oldest running amusement parks in the world, located near Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. This historic amusement park was established in 1583, making it a living testament to Denmark's rich history.
The story of Bakken began with the discovery of a natural spring by Kirsten Piil in the large forest park, Dyrehaven. The spring's waters were believed to have curative properties, attracting large crowds. This led to the establishment of entertainment and amusement facilities, gradually evolving into the amusement park we know today.
The park's exterior is a charming blend of historical and modern Danish architecture. Its location in the heart of a vast woodland adds to its enchanting appeal. The tall, lush trees provide a beautiful natural canopy, making any visit a delightful experience. Cobblestone paths meander through the park, leading visitors to a variety of attractions.
Upon entering, one is greeted by the nostalgic sight of vintage carousels, wooden roller coasters, and a theater, the Bakken Revue, which has been a major attraction since the 19th century. The interior of Bakken is as compelling as its exterior, filled with over 150 attractions including a Ferris wheel, a drop tower, and various themed rides.
One of the highlights is the Rutschebanen, a wooden roller coaster operating since 1932 and one of the world’s oldest wooden coasters. The park also houses game stalls, dance halls, restaurants, and ice cream stands, providing a full experience for visitors of all ages.
An interesting aspect of Bakken is its open admission policy. Unlike most amusement parks, entrance to Bakken is free, with guests paying for individual rides and attractions. This makes it a popular destination for local families and tourists alike.
Despite its age, Bakken continues to evolve and adapt, ensuring it remains a treasured piece of Denmark's heritage. It beautifully merges the nostalgia of the past with the excitement of the present, making it a remarkable destination that has stood the test of time. It's not just an amusement park; Bakken is a unique blend of history, tradition, and fun, promising an unforgettable experience for anyone who steps through its gates.
