Prague Botanical Garden, known as Pražská botanická zahrada in local language, is a natural oasis nestled in the heart of the Czech Republic's capital city, Prague. Spanning over 52 hectares of land and divided into different sections, the garden was officially established on July 2, 1969. Over the decades, it has grown to become a hub for botanical research and a premier attraction for nature enthusiasts. The garden is located in the Troja Basin, north of Prague city center. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike, attracting more than 300,000 visitors annually. The garden is renowned for its diversity of plant species, with over 6,000 types of plants from all around the world. The garden's main attraction is the Fata Morgana greenhouse, a large tropical greenhouse spread across a sprawling 1,750 square meters. This greenhouse is unique because it is divided into three different sections, each representing a different tropical and subtropical region. Its design replicates the natural conditions of these regions, from the high humidity to the warmth, ensuring the exotic plants and flowers thrive. Apart from the Fata Morgana greenhouse, the Prague Botanical Garden also comprises an open-air exhibitions, the Japanese Garden, the historical vineyards of St. Claire's Vineyard, and an enchanting Butterfly Pavilion that operates during the summer months. The Japanese Garden, designed with a tranquil and serene atmosphere, exhibits traditional Japanese plants, a beautiful pond, and a charming teahouse. St. Claire's Vineyard, on the other hand, is a symbol of the long viticulture history of Prague. Here, visitors can sample and buy wines produced from the vineyard. The garden also features thematic outdoor exhibits, including the Ornamental Garden, the Peony Meadow, and the North American Prairie, each showcasing a unique set of plants and flowers. Inside the Prague Botanical Garden, there is an educational trail and a variety of exhibitions. The garden frequently hosts educational programs and cultural events to promote awareness about the importance of plant conservation. Over the years, the Prague Botanical Garden has not just been a place for leisure but also a crucial center for scientific research and conservation. It is a living testament to Prague's commitment to preserving and appreciating the world's botanical diversity, offering visitors an extraordinary journey through nature's splendors.
