Once upon a time, in the small town of Södertälje, just south of Stockholm, a unique place was born. Dubbed "Tom Tits Experiment," this was no ordinary museum, but a world of science, discovery, and hands-on exploration that defies the traditional museum concept. The journey began in 1981 when Klas Fresk, a Swedish journalist, and adventurer, was inspired by the scientific experiments illustrated in French author, Arthur Good's books, written under the pseudonym Tom Tit. Determined to bring the wonders of science to life, Fresk established the Tom Tits Experiment, a fascinating place where scientific theories were transformed into interactive exhibitions. The exterior of Tom Tits Experiment is striking. Located in a grand, four-story historic building, formerly a steam-powered mill, it invokes a sense of curiosity and anticipation of the wonders that lie within. The surrounding gardens and park, filled with outdoor experiments, sculptures, and picnic spots, add to its charm. Step inside, and you'll be transported into an enchanting world where science meets fun. The interior, spread over four floors, is a maze of colorful, interactive exhibits. Each floor is dedicated to a different scientific theme, from physics and biology to human anatomy and technology. The ground floor is home to a unique Water Experiment area, where children can play with water in various forms – solid, liquid, and gas. The first floor houses the Technology section, filled with intriguing gadgets and machines. On the second floor, you'll find the Humans and Nature section, where you can explore the complexities of the human body and the wonders of nature. The top floor is dedicated to the Physics section, where you can experiment with light, electricity, and magnetism. Besides the indoor exhibits, Tom Tits Experiment also boasts an impressive outdoor section. Here you can experiment with natural phenomena, play a tune on a giant xylophone, or challenge yourself with their obstacle course. Throughout its existence, Tom Tits Experiment has remained true to its founding objective: to make learning fun. It continues to fascinate its visitors, enabling them to learn about science through hands-on experiments, rather than just reading about them. It's no wonder that it's considered one of the most important science centers in Sweden, attracting over 200,000 visitors every year. Tom Tits Experiment is not just a museum; it's a playground for the intellectually curious, a testament to the wonders of science, and a monument to the joy of discovery.
