The U Fleků Brewery, situated in the heart of Prague, is more than just a brewery; it is a symbol of Czech brewing tradition that dates back to the 15th century. With a history spanning more than 500 years, U Fleků is the oldest brewery in Central Europe that has been brewing continuously. Since its establishment in 1499, the brewery has produced the same dark lager, Flekovský Tmavý Ležák 13°, renowned for its rich taste and intensity. Nestled in the old town of Prague, the exterior of U Fleků Brewery is a fascinating blend of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles that reflect its antiquity. With its rustic brick walls and antique wooden signage, it stands as a testament to the bygone era. Upon entering U Fleků, one is immediately transported back in time. The interior of the brewery is decorated with vintage brewing equipment, wooden tables, and antique fixtures. The stained glass windows, wooden beams, and dark wood furniture add a distinctive charm to the place. Eight different halls and a traditional beer garden offer seating for over 1,200 guests, each hall bearing its own unique history and decoration. The Grand Hall, also known as the "Sausage Hall", is the largest and oldest, known for its painted ceilings and walls adorned with historical scenes. The Traditional Hall is filled with vintage photographs and drawings that showcase the brewery's rich history. The Cabaret Hall, once a stage for cabaret performances during the 19th century, retains its original character with an old piano and stage. While its architecture and décor keep history alive, it's the beer at U Fleků that truly tells a story. The iconic dark lager, brewed using the same traditional methods and recipe for centuries, is served straight from the oak cask. The recipe for this unique beer remains a closely guarded secret, contributing to the allure and mystique of U Fleků. Besides the beer, U Fleků is famous for its hearty Czech cuisine, with dishes such as goulash, sausages, and pork knuckles complementing the robust beer. The U Fleků Brewery is more than just a place to drink beer; it's a living museum where visitors can immerse themselves in the rich brewing history of the Czech Republic. From its architecture to its beer, U Fleků continues to embody the spirit and tradition of Czech brewing, making it a must-visit for any beer enthusiast.
